[Spiritual SoundBite] Deep Thoughts…Doggy Style

Over the last 2 1/2 years, my canine companion Duke has taught me many things. If you think about it, this is a pretty powerful phenomenon, considering he has never uttered a single word. So this week I’ve decided to list the 10 things I’ve learned from my dog Duke. If he could speak our language here are some thoughts and bits of wisdom he’d share:

  1. When I’m playing, I just play. I’m not feeling guilty about not doing my chores (i.e. catching squirrels for grand-mappy)
  2. When I eat, I’m just eating. I’m completely there with my food. I’m not thinking about what I ate yesterday (I wouldn’t remember anyway).
  3. When I’m thirsty I drink water.
  4. When I’m chewing my bone, it’s just me and my bone-nothing else matters. We are one.
  5. When I’m sleeping. I just sleep. My mind isn’t racing with thoughts about work or things that need to get done. I do dream, which you’ve probably noticed when my paws start twitching and I’m mumbling.
  6. I really enjoy taking walks-the sunshine and fresh air feels good (plus, that’s where no. 1 & 2 can happen).
  7. Kissing you is the only way for me to show my appreciation and love for you. I’d pet you too but I’d only end up scratching you.
  8. Even though I have no verbal response to when you tell me that I’m the best dog in the whole wide world, I still need to hear it. And that applies for any other positive things you say (i.e. good boy!, I love you, etc…). See #7.
  9. I like making you happy and pleasing you and it’s nice to know what those things are.
  10. Visiting different places makes me a more well rounded dog-I’m more accepting and open to other dogs that are of a different color, size, and temperament.

Cheers to a Healthy. Happy. Sexy. You.
