What a fantastic weekend in San Diego! I visited my sister and had a blast with my niece & nephews (who range from 10 months to 3
years old). I was amazed at not only how much my 3 year old nephew was communicating, but also the great lessons that kids generally reveal; if we’re open to them. Namely, kids don’t hide their emotions or thoughts. They have no internal filtering–thus leading to temper tantrums, but most often times, revealing the truth only. They live in the moment and express what they really feel and mean. Kids just don’t seem to lie.
Case in point with the recent boy that got his parents in trouble in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer (Larry King’s stand in): the boy’s father, Richard Heene, asked his son why he didn’t come out from his hiding place if he could hear people calling for him. And without even hesitation, the boy replied, “We did this for the show.”
Kids are great examples for us adults to reconnect with our core truths & childlike innocence. How often do you filter your emotions & thoughts and prevent yourself from truly expressing what you need? What filters do you have that prevent you from being you’re true and authentic self? And why? Keep this in mind as you go through your day and see if you notice yourself withholding your truth…and then speak it!
